I was delighted to find out that three nuts translated into French is “trois noix” (twa nwah!)
This print "Trois Noix" was inspired by the ancient three hares motif which is thought (by some) to be associated with the lunar cycle, fertility and connection to nature.
In this version, we have a trio of squirrels, their tails intertwined, each holding its own noix. Squirrels are often seen as symbols of renewal and embracing new beginnings, so depicting them in an infinite cycle of felt like a particularly fitting choice to me, because isn't that like life?
Printed on 86gsm bright white Japanese Masa Paper using black oil based ink. The nuts are coloured with pieces of Thai Mulberry paper that has been cut to size and sandwiched between the paper and the ink using a technique called Chine collé.
The paper is approximately 36cm x 36cm with 4 hand deckled edges.
These prints are entirely handmade and as such will contain inconsistencies because of the handmade printing process. These features are characteristic of lino prints and mean no two pieces are the same.
